Mongoose Teocali Mountain Bike Review

One of the first things that you may notice when researching Mongoose Teocali bikes online is that people use these bikes for everything! Mongoose calls these Dual Suspension XC bikes, but I've seen these bikes used for just about anything that you can do with a full suspension bike.

Aside for their versatility, the most outstanding feature of the Mongoose Teocali bikes are their price. Some riders claim that the Teocali is comparable to much more expensive high end mountain bikes.

The Teocali bikes are Mongoose's mid to upper end dual suspension mountain bikes and there are 3 different component levels. The Teocali Super, at the high end followed by Elite and then the Comp.

The Teocali has been around for years so there are no shortage of reviews online. Most of the complaints that I've seen were with the fork, brakes and components (in general) and most of these were with the earlier models (before 2009).

Mongoose builds a wide range of mountain bikes including their cheap low end models at Wal-Mart to their high quality high end hardtail and dual suspension mountian bikes (such as the Teocali).

The Mongoose Teocali series has 3 price/component levels. The 3 levels are based on components and include the Super at the high end followed by the Elite and then the Comp.

About-Bicycles Review:

The Mongoose Teocali series bikes are good mid range, full suspension, multipurpose mountain bikes but there are better bikes available online (and offline) if you are willing to pay a little bit more.

Often you can get last years (or previous years) models (new) at a bargain price. 

Customer Reviews:

There are plenty of reviews of the Mongoose Teocali bikes to be found online. Customers have rated this model fairly high ((5 of 5 stars) at Buzillions (from 3 reviews) and  (4 of 5 stars) at MTBR for example) but there are a some complaints also. At the time of this review there plenty of Mongoose Teocali reviews but most reviews were for earlier model years.

Mongoose Teocali Comp (2010): "...The Rock Shocks in the front and back make this a responsive bike. The Shimano brakes can stop on a dime!! I would have run into a few trees without them. I have been to two really big bike parks, even took on the advanced trails......big mistake for me but the bike took everything in front of it. Roots,sand,ruts,mud, dirt, rocks......tires grip like I never would have believed!! Only one thing I found negative. The seat, omg the 1st ride nearly three hours of intense riding everything hurt that touched the seat. Quick fix, went to the local sports authority and picked up a padded seat. No more rash or sensativity. This bike rocks!!!" - From January 10, 2011 Buzillions.com.

Mongoose Teocali Comp (2010): Strengths: "Strong frame takes a beating. Shocks seem good so far but I'm only 160 pounds. Handles well downhill. Kendal Nevegal tires grip excellent around corners." Weaknesses: "A little heavy for climbing but once you work out the X.5 shifters timing you can keep up with lighter bikes. Bars are a little wide for single track." - From September 2009, mtbr.com.
