Elroy-Sparta
Bike Trail, Wisconsin
Photo Page 7
(From Sparta to Elroy)

This is the entrance to Tunnel #2 (heading east). Each of the tunnels on this trail have their own character. I like the brick and stone entrance to this tunnel. As I mentioned on the previous photo page (#6), you can see the light at the end of the tunnel (for tunnel #2) even before you enter this tunnel.

The mist of tunnel #2 from the
inside looking out. I took this ride on the Elroy Sparta trail on a very hot summer day. You feel a huge difference in temperature and humidly when you enter and leave these tunnels. On top of that it is like instantly going from the dead of night to a bright sunny day without even having a dawn or dusk period!

Looking out of tunnel #2 from the Elroy Sparta trail as you get closer to the end of the tunnel (the east side of the tunnel). This particular tunnel has more finished brick walls at this end as opposed to the rough cut rock at the end of tunnel #3.

Just as you exit tunnel #2 you start to feel the heat again. The tunnels actually gives you a real nice break from the heat on a hot summer day.

The mist of tunnel #2 as seen from the
outside. I took the photo above after I had passed through tunnel #2 heading east and was looking back at the entrance to the tunnel.

Another view of the tunnel #2 entrance and the mist as I continued my journey to Elroy. This tunnel (#2) is actually just about half way between the towns of Elroy and Sparta. The next town that I pass through on this trip though is Wilton, Wisconsin.
As you can see from the date of this ride (below) this trip was from quite a while ago (2003) and the photos here were taken in the early days of digital photography (at least for me) so the quality is really not as good as the more recent bike trail photo tours on this site. Fortunately, I have family that lives in Sparta Wis. so I am hoping to get an upgrade in photo quality soon.
