Elgin Branch (from the Fox River Trail) to
the Geneva Spur and back to Geneva
(Click on any of the bike trail photos to enlarge)
Here's where we started our Illinois Prairie Path trip at the
northern end of the Elgin Branch where the IPP connects to the
Fox River Trail. We are heading south at this point. The Fox
River Trail branches off to the right (where the sign says South Elgin and St. CHarles) and the IPP (Elgin Branch) is to the left.
Here's a wider view as you start down the Illinois Prairie Path heading south east.It is good that this intersection is clearly marked here since it is an important intersection and you can end up going completely the wrong way (depending on where you want to go) if you miss this.
We had planned on riding the Illinois Prairie Path on this ride so we went left here. I was on another ride on the Fox River Trail a few years back when my son and I did 100 miles on the FRT and McHenry County Prairie Trails and we were riding fast trying to get back to the car in Geneva before it got even darker and missed this sign and went a couple of miles out of our way before we realized that we were on the wrong trail. This trip was in the early fall and you can some of the fall
colors coming out. The photo above is from the northern part of the Elgin Branch of the IPP as we headed south. The IPP is crushed stone at this point and you get the feel like you are away from the busy suburban area but you are actually not very far from some major highways at this point (like route 25).
A straight section on the Ill Prairie Path. The photo above is not real exciting but I was trying to capture the feel of the trail at this point and took quite a few trail photos on this particular ride.
Here's a bridge over a highway on the Illinois Prairie Path Elgin Branch. I'm not sure what road this bridge crosses since these photos were taken before I had my GPS bike computer and I didn't see a sign saying what road it was.
