ProForm 300 SPX Indoor Cycle Review
The New, Low Cost Alternative

The Proform 300 SPX is the latest no frills, low cost Indoor Cycle from Proform. When you are looking for an Indoor Cycle from one of the major manufacturers Proform 320SPX Indoor Cycle(Proform is part of Icon Fitness who also makes NordicTrack and many other popular brands), this bike will most likely be the lowest priced model that you will find.

Proform actually has a very large selection of Indoor Cycles and it can be a little tricky to sort out the differences and to find which model best meets your own specific needs and preferences.

The Proform 300 SPX has many of the same features that the more expensive Proform models have and the design, quality, weight and weight limits are also very similar. For example, most Proform Indoor Cycles have a 44 lb. flywheel, 250 lb. user capacity, chain drive and a 5 year frame 90 day parts and labor warranty.

The difference with the higher priced models is that a few of the models have electronic consoles to monitor your ride stats, the Proform 315IC also comes with 2 Workout DVDs and the console is compatible with Polar® Wireless Heart Rate Monitors and the Proform 590 SPX comes with a quieter belt drive system.

Note: The Proform 300 SPX is currently unavailable (was selling for $299 indirectly from Amazon). See Proform 300 SPX Indoor Cycle for the latest availability, customer reviews or to get this bike online when available.

The Proform 300SPX, like any Indoor Cycle (or Spin® Bike*), has a fully adjustable seat (horizontally and vertically), adjustable handlebars, mechanical resistance system ~ to adjust to any level of resistance ~ constantly moving pedals when the flywheel is moving (no coasting) and a quick-stop braking system, via the lever above the flywheel.  Proform Handlebar Comparison

The 300SPX also has the aerobar Handlebars (pitchfork shaped) giving you more road-bike-like riding positions for more variety, to reduce stress and fatigue and for a longer more intense workout.

I have seen the Proform 300SPX advertised as being the replacement for the older Proform 290SPX (which was a very popular low cost indoor cycle) and they are pretty much the same in most ways except for the color scheme and handlebars. The 290SPX was black and red and the handlebars on the 290SPX had two horizontal pegs ~ as show in the upper photo on the right ~ as opposed to the aerobar shape ~ as seen in the lower photo.

If you prefer the handlebars with the horizontal pegs as described above, they are still available on the Proform 490 SPX.

About-Bicycles Review:

The Proform 300SPX has most of the same design, quality, weight and weight limits as the more expensive Proform Indoor Cycles but does not come with any of the extras (like a console, workout DVDs, belt drive, Heart-rate monitor) which is why you can save so much on this model.

When you want to keep your costs down and still get a good workout the Proform 300SPX is a good choice. Keep in mind, however, that this is an economy model which will not have the high quality components and may not last as long as the higher end models.
