Livestrong LS28IC Indoor Cycle Review
Drop Down Handlebar Training Bike

The limited edition Livestrong LS28IC Indoor Cycle is all about quality, inspiration and a major donation to the LIVESTRONG® Foundation for health and the fight against cancer. Livestrong LS28IC

On my recent trip to Johnson Fitness, in Madison Wisconsin (the manufacturer of the Livestrong bikes) I was able to compare the LS28IC and the LS9.9IC side by side with a personal overview of both bikes from the product specialist for indoor cycles at Johnson.

Prior to my review of these two indoor cycles I didn't fully understand the difference between the two and why the LS28IC was more expensive (although it is now much more affordable than it was when it was originally released).

The biggest tangible differences between the LS28IC and the LS9.9IC is the upgrade in the quality of the bike itself (from the already high end LS9.9IC), the drop down handlebars, that much more of the purchase price goes directly to the Livestrong Foundation ($1000 per purchase to be exact) and the limited edition availability (500 units were manufactured and once they are gone that's it for this model).

The less tangible differences in the bikes is the limited edition inspirational and cosmetic design including the "28" badge (signifying the 28 million people in the world fighting cancer), the 7 stars (signifying the 7 Tour de France that Lance won), the motivational theme decals, the carbon fiber look and additional stainless steel trim.

Note: The Livestrong LS28IC Indoor Cycle is currently out of stock (this bike previously sold from Livestrong for $1,699). The only other training bike available with drop down handlebars is the Livestrong S-Series Bike. See Livestrong S-Series Indoor Cycle for the latest price and availabilty of this bike. *

I am not sure if the LS28IC will be produced again at this time but you can go to Limited Edition LS28IC Indoor Cycle for the latest availability, price and customer reviews for this bike.

Indoor Cycles or Spin Bikes, including the Livestrong LS28IC Indoor Cycle are more similar to traditional bikes, provide an excellent low impact, aerobic exercise and are more compact and cheaper than other home fitness equipment  (btw: the "LS" stands for Livestrong and the "IC" stands for indoor cycles with these 2 product codes).

LS28IC and LS9.9IC Comparison

  • Both bikes have an infinately adjustable seat (horizontally and vertically (there are no holes to align with pins)) but the LS28IC has a more sturdy square tube post for the seat and an upgraded saddle. Note that the saddle and pedals are interchangeable with your outdoor bike.
  • The LS28IC has pedal clip mounts build into the stock pedals.
  • The handlebars are infinately adjustable horizontally and the LS28IC handlebars can be adjusted fore/aft and further down than the LS9.9IC.
  • The handlebars and down tubes on the LS28IC allow many more hand and upper body positions.
  • The LS28IC has a commercial grade frame made of higher quality materials and an upgraded brake lever for additional braking options.
  • The computer console is the same on both of these models.
  • The LS28IC has an even better warranty.

About-Bicycles Review

We have always recommended the LS9.9IC on this website so since the LS28IC is an upgraded version of the original Livestrong spin bike, I would definately recommend this bike to anyone looking for a quality indoor cycle, for serious workouts and training.

In addition to the commercial quality of this bike, the most outstanding feature is the dropdown handlebars (this option is not currently available on any other major brand of Indoor Cycle on the market). Although the Livestrong S-Series also has dropdown handlebars (since it is made from the some mold as this bike), it is quite a bit more expensive than the LS28IC.

The drop down handlebars give you a more realistic road bike position and ride. Obviously wind resistance is not a concern on an Indoor Cycle but having the options to switch positions during your workout and to ride in the same positions as you would ride outdoors is an important factor for indoor training.

In addition to your workout, the $1000 donation to the Livestrong foundation when you purchase this limited edition bike should help you feel much better too!
