Scott CR1 Road Bike Review

The Scott CR1 is designed for performance and comfort. Obviously we are not talking about some slow and heavy "Comfort Bike". What we are talking about is Scott's light and fast high end performance bike with a frame designed to absorb shock and vibrations and reduce fatigue on longer rides.Scott CR1 Comp Road Bike

Scott road bikes are known for their light weight frames and aerodynamic designs more so than for their high end components although you can get these bikes with higher quality components if you select the higher price/component levels within each model.

Scott places the CR1 in their "Performance" category along with the less expensive Speedster bikes and offers five different CR1 price/component levels for 2010 (the SL, Pro, Elite, Team and Comp). The carbon frame is exactly the same on all levels. The differences are primarily with the components (see the comparison below for more information on this).

Although the CR1 has been replaced by the Addict as Scotts high end, top dog performance/racing bike, the CR1 is still one of the best racing/performance bikes on the market.

Another big advantage to the Scott CR1 bikes it that they are very reasonably priced, you can buy these bikes online with options for home or store delivery and you can often find great deals on previous years models (new) online.

Scott CR1 Features at a Glance: The Scott CR1 bikes have carbon SDS (shock damping system) frames (approx. 14.8 to 17.9 pounds), Carbon SDS Forks, Shimano Ultegra or Shimano Dura-Ace components on the Pro and SL models, SRAM Rival 09 on the Elite, Shimano 105 on the Team and Shimano Tiagra on the Comp.

Note: As of 8/1/2010 the 2010 Scott CR1 Comp is selling for $1,699 (new) at REI with free shipping options. See 2010 Scott CR1 Comp for the latest price and customer reviews.

There are also some 2009 and 2010 CR1s on clearance sale (starting at $1,599 for the Comp) at SunAndSki.com. See Scott CR1 Models at SunAndSki for the latest prices and models available.

Scott CR1 Model Comparisons:

The 2010 Scott CR1 has 5 price/model levels for 2010. The SL, Pro, Elite, Team and Comp. All models have the same IMP carbon tech frame but very few other similarities. Each model has a different component set and MSRP prices range from $1,850 to $6,050 so you have quite a few options when it comes to the CR1 models.

See the REI links (above) for their automated comparison feature to see the more specific details.

About-Bicycles Review:

I usually look for consistency in negative customer reviews online (in addition to many other things) and I have not found consistent negative reviews on the CR1 (although I did find a few negative reviews).

The frame on the Scott CR1 is excellent (and is the same on all models) but there are vast differences in the individual models. Personally, I like the compact crankset of the Scott CR1 Comp but I prefer the CR1 Team overall for the price and component quality.

Customer Reviews:

At the time of this review, most of the Scott CR1 customer reviews online were for model years prior to 2010, although there are some 2010 reviews starting to surface.
